Guasha is the use of a ceramic tool in a repeated stroking pattern along the skin of the back to alleviate tension and expel disease. This will lead to the appearance of “Sha”, reddish pink coloration on the surface of the skin. It is an indication of the release of toxins, and does not break the skin or cause pain.
Guasha is used to address stagnated energy in the body, which can be responsible for inflammation and pain. It can be used on areas of the body like the arms, legs, back, and neck, or even gently on the face.
At our Franklin, WI location, Guasha can be included as part of an acupuncture treatment.
